Post subject: Changing Tricked Out Slider into A Module For Admins!

Following the edit from Montego for his "Messages" hack so that Non-SuperAdmins could edit through the Admin panel. http://montegomusings.com/index.php/technology/nuke/avoiding-the-admin-superuser-trap?blog=2

I was wondering if anyone could help adapt the above tutorial for the ToN Slider so that not just SuperAdmin (GodAdmin) can edit the slider!

Thoughts?!

It is definitely doable. I am extremely busy at the moment and I do not know when I will have enough time to resume coding. If no one else can pick it up, I will start on is as soon as I have a day off.

Try this. You will need to upload it into your modules folder. You may also need to delete the admin/case/case.tonslider.php admin/links/links.tonslider.php and the admin/modules/tonslider.php files before this will work.

Works like a charm! Now if only I could get it figured out for nukeSEO id be off to the races lol...

Anyways one question for you, why isnt TrickedOutSlider in the modules/ folder originally anyways? Its not that its a seperate ported over gallery type thing. This hack works fantastic just a bit weird having two seperate sets of files for the same block.

Thoughts?

The slider is a block with no need for a module. When I wrote the block, I wanted a simple admin area to edit the info. I do not have other admins on my site so I really have no need for that feature.

Also, if you remove

admin/case/case.tonslider.php
admin/links/links.tonslider.php
admin/modules/tonslider.php

You will only have the admin control in the modules and not both.

The mod works great! However when logged into the regular admin everything seems to work peachy keen except for the text in the top left corner of my theme (in the admin panel admin.php?op=tonslidersetup) the words Access Denied appear, I don't know if there is a small glitch or something but it only shows up when my regular admin is logged in with the added module privledges editing the slider.

I will check it out. It sounds like I missed permissions on a line.

That would do it lol, I didnt intitially bother deleting them because I didn;t think it would affect a regular admin as they dont have access to the original admin module.

One other thing, I wanted to do the update for the block and css for the google fix, but I have heavily modified both so I don't want to overwrite!

The changes are simple. The center tags need to be removed from the block and the css has the centering done for the divs. So, if you just remove the center tags in block-TrickedOutSlider.php and replace or modify your slider.css with the supplied one you should be good to go.

Nice... How about TrickedOut Slider News? Either another module (e.g. NewsSlider or SliderNews) that could be used as the home page module that displays new stories in slider form. It could be a new module or an option for this.

Of course, you'd want to be able to upload and specify an image to be used with the slider when creating the story. Of course, that would be for admins only. It could also be used by themes as an image to display with regular news on the home page, sort of like how it does topic images now...

(yes, I'm rambling...but that goes with avatar Smile )
